Closing Early

Happy Halloween!  We are closing today at 4pm so that our employees may enjoy trick or treating with their families.

Design Team Wednesday

I often call my daughter our "Little Blessing Baby" and I give thanks every day that our little peanut is here with us. So when I saw the Authentique "Thankful" line at Scrapdoodles I knew it would be perfect! I wanted to think outside of the box with this line, and instead of using Thanksgiving photos, I used the line to document what I am most thankful for, my daughter. I love the double sided pattern cardstock and I thought the acorns were so cute! The line also offers a sheet of cardstock stickers that really helped tie everything together.

The flowers and glitter letters are from my stash, as is the brown satin ribbon on the left tying the layout together. The rest of the letters and the "count your blessings" sticker are from the Authentique sticker sheet. The pattern papers are all from the "Thankful"  line and the solid paper is my favorite line, Bazzil. I added a bit of bling to the layout with the orange and silver rhinestone brads by My Minds Eye that I picked up in the store. After I finished the layout I had enough left over to make a simple, 4x4, flip album showing my newborn daughter with her favorite people.

All of the elements in the mini album complement the layout - using the same brads, paper, stickers and ribbon.

Feel free to hop over to my blog for more photos from these projects and more!

Happy Scrapping!

Employee Favorite Product of the Week!

Greetings! I am the new girl, Georgette! I have learned a lot in the past few weeks and have much more to learn! I figured since I am new Scrapdoodles and new to all things scrapbooking, let’s start at the beginning. My choice for product of the week is:

Inkssentials™ Non-Stick Craft Sheet™

The 15" x 18" reusable, protective sheet is the answer to all craft surface needs, especially messy people like me! Nothing sticks to it so we can’t mess it up! The slick, non-porous material withstands high temperatures, making it the perfect compliment to Melt Art™ and the Melting Pot®. Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel™ (UTEE), candle wax, soap chips and even hot glue won’t penetrate or distort its smooth-as-glass finish. Any excess melted product, once cooled, can be easily removed and placed back into the Melting Pot or stored for future projects. Clean-up is quick and easy, ready to use again and again.

My first big project is a Halloween wreath and it kept my work space safe and clean up was a breeze!

Design Team Wednesday

I love fall! Every year we try to participate in fall festivities such as corn mazes, wagon rides, and pumpkin carving. A couple weeks ago we got to enjoy some fall activities at Temple Hall Farm. I wanted to highlight some of those pictures using the fun "Acorn Hollow" paper collection from Little Yellow Bicycle. I used some stickers from the Echo Park "Fall Fever" collection to add some dimension. My favorite part of the page is probably the owl canvas tape from the Little Yellow Bicycle "Hello Fall" collection. I love owls and immediately fell in love with this tape at the store! The tag "It's Fall Ya'll" is from We Are Memory Keepers, and it fit me perfectly since I've lived in the south most of my life. :) Too add variety to the page, I used some leftover paper and made rolled paper flowers. These are really easy to make and can bring dimension to your layout and cards. To make them, I traced a circle that was a little bigger than what I wanted the flowers to be, cut within the circle near the edge until there was a tiny piece left, rolled it up and glued the bottom to the back of the flower. To tie everything together, I accented the bottom side of the page with American Craft Elements brads, and added some ribbon from my stash to the tag.

I wanted to use the leftover paper for some cute fall cards. I started with making a thank you card using a tag from We Are Memory Keepers. I love the colors on this tag! I used some ribbon from my stash to embellish it.

I used the rest of the paper and embellishments to make some fun fall note cards for friends and family. The canvas tape is also from the Little Yellow Bicycle "Hello Fall" collection.

I got some stick pins from the Little Yellow Bicycle "Acorn Hollow" collection that I really wanted to use. I have never used stick pins before so this was a new challenge for me. I finally was able to incorporate them in one of my cards and have fallen in love with them!
I hope you all find inspiration to show off your fall pictures and make some fun cards. Stop by the store to see all the neat products and projects!

Design Team Wednesday: Halloween Layouts and Tags

It's that fun time of the month when it's my turn (Karen) to highlight some wonderful products available in the store.  This trip, I focused on our Halloween selection - so much to choose from! I was inspired by the orange/blue color combo and vintage feel of October Afternoon's "Witch Hazel" line.  (You can check out the whole line HERE)  It made me want to dig up some old childhood photos.  Luckily, I knew just where to look and put together this layout.  Can you see my mom making a goofy face in the door window? He he - Fun times.  For this layout, I broke up the heavy patterns by just using blocks or strips on top of a more neutral cardstock background.  I tore some of the paper edges, distressed others, and inked around the background sheet.  I also used Washi Tape from a My Mind's Eye collection ("the sweetest thing") and a few stickers off my Authentique "Enchanted" Halloween collection.
This line isn't just for your "vintage" photos, though.  I thought the blue would be a great complement to these pics of our daughter as Cinderella from last year.  With some creative placement of my photos, I was able to highlight the black paper titles, instead of creating a new one.  Trying to add a softer touch, I created these Washi Tape flowers (My Mind's Eye tape and enamel dots, and stickers).  I used about an 8 inch piece of tape and gathered it around the middle.  I placed an enamel dot in each center.  I did add an extra glue dot or two to get them to lay right on my page.
And, finally, here are a few tags I created with some of the scraps.  I thought they would be fun to place on a card or use to embellish treat bags this Halloween.  Tags are also a fun way to experiment with new products or techniques.  I used my Washi tape to alter some of the strong paper patterns - the moon and the chevron backgrounds on the first and last tags below, for example.  It was a fun way to get more out of the papers and highlight some of the cute images and patterns.
October Afternoon recently hosted a "Witch Hazel" blog hop on their blogs, if you need more inspiration - or a reason to add this collection to your stash!
Happy Scrappin'!  ~ Karen

Employee Favorite Product of the Week!

These Aged and Shabby Embossing Enamels will give your creations a dynamic, Fran•táge effect and provide a gorgeous alternative to solid, single colored embossing powders. Made of chunky and varying granule sizes, this powder will melt in interesting ways. These impressive embossing enamels can be heated from underneath to preserve the variations of granule sizes, or heated from above to give an alternate smooth, dynamic look. Sprinkle them across your projects and add glitters, micas or color fragments before heating from beneath.

In the picture below I used the Aged Embossing Enamels to create custom mosaic tiles for my layout. I then created my own custom page title by embossing plain white letters cut from my electronic die cut machine, resulting in a perfect match and final touch to my layout.

The powders come in a variety of colors, more than I can justify getting myself at this time! With the ones I own already, I created the chart below to display in Scrapdoodles. Come check them out in person to see the beautiful touches these embossing enamels can give to any project you may be working on.

Design Team Wednesday!

Design Team Wednesday
Authentique is quickly becoming one of my favorite lines of scrapbook paper. This month I have used the beautiful colors and patterns of the "Lively" collection. I decided that using circles of various sizes was the perfect way to highlight all of the wonderful patterened paper in this line. Pink, brown, and green are three of my favorite color combinations, so this was a fantastic fit for me!
I combined various stickers from this collection to add dimension. I always like a little "bling" in each layout too, so I chose to add rhinestone gems to my daughter's name and the sticker embellishments.
The sticker "Live out Loud" immediately caught my attention and seemed like the perfect sentiment for a birthday card. The ribbon accent is from American Crafts.

This sticker was my favorite of the whole collection. It could be ideal for an anniversary or wedding card. I added Stickles to give a little extra flair and shine.

As with all of my projects, I truly enjoyed creating these. May you all find a little time to lose yourself in scrapping this fall season! I will see you soon with some inspiration for all those Christmas photos!

Employee Favorite Product of the Week "Epiphany Crafts"

The more you get to know me, the more you’ll find that I always have my eyes open for ways to create unique and homemade gifts for my friends and family. This love led me to Epiphany Crafts.

I’m going to be completely honest. When we received the first shipment of Epiphany Crafts I was quite confused. Are they punches? What are the Bubble Caps for? How would I use something like this? Then I saw the charm settings. There were two sizes, one that would be perfect as a pendant on a necklace, and the other would be perfect for a charm bracelet. I just couldn’t resist. What better present for a grandmother than a bracelet or necklace with her grandchildren’s pictures? Not only can you make charms, but you can make endless embellishments for your layouts or cards.

Epiphany Crafts makes the process very easy. You simply purchase the Shape Studio and Bubble Cap in the size and shape that corresponds to your needs. The possibilities are endless: hearts, pennants, squares, circles, etc. Choose the paper or picture that you would like to use and away you go; instant embellishments or keepsakes. After you create your shape you can place it into a setting (such as the charm settings I used) or you can simply add it to a project.

Take a chance on this product and you’ll be amazed at the unique pop you can add to your own projects.

Design Team Wednesday

Fall is upon us. I can see the leaves starting to change! I love this time of year. Growing up in Florida we did not have a fall, everything is green. This is my second fall here and I love doing all the fall activities, apple picking, going to the pumpkin patch and just driving to enjoy the scenery.

The store has such a wonderful collection of fall and Halloween papers is was hard to choose from!
For my pumpkin patch layout I used Jillibean Soup paper collection.  The colors are so great!! I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out the pumpkin.  I love using the buttons by American Craft for the country feel of the layout.
For my second project I wanted to make a Halloween banner to decorate the house.  I love love love Echo Park!!!  I used chipboard for the circles, hot glued some sparkly orange tulle onto the back.  There is so many cool shapes on the Silhouette Cameo to use for projects.  The doilies, letters, flowers, cat and bird were all cut out from the Cameo.  I inked the edges of the circles with Tim Holtz's Distressing Ink. I glimmer misted over the whole banner with Tattered Angels.  I glittered the cat and the bird with American Craft WOW Fine Glitter.  I love Kaisercraft's Sparlkets to put in the middle of the flowers.
The pictures do not do the banner justice so come by the store to get a better and up close look at it.  It was so easy to create.  There is no reason not to decorate your whole house for Halloween!!!
I hope I have inspired you for the fall holidays and events.  Come by the store and the ladies can help you create whatever you desire for the Halloween!!!
